How lockdown lead a couple of friends to build a farming club that produces and sells fresh vegetables

Royal Farmers Club..is a team of local teachers, bank employees, and others who live in and around Thenhippalam, a village within Malappuram district, near Calicut university, is really passionate folks for producing ultra-fresh local food, that is 100 % pure and organic.

These people are not really by leaving their regular desk jobs but, determined to help other farmers in their village and get them right value for their produce, during their free time.

It is during the lock-down, Hariharan, a native of Thenhippalam, working in a local bank decided to cultivate some vegetables, for the family on his own land. It is then, his neighbor friends who were also interested in farming, working in various other sectors, threw an idea of starting “vegetable farming”.

Eventually, the team was able to secure a bigger land nearby and started farming vegetables like – spinach, bitter guard, bottle guard, long beans, pumpkin, green chilies, ladyfinger, etc. At that time the team did not have any idea of how to market their produce. It was hari, who suggested to set up a Sunday market for an hour, to sell vegetables that were ready for harvesting.

There comes the “Royal Farmers Club”.

With the name Royal Farmers Club, the team started promoting it on Facebook pages and the Whatsapp group created events and invited members for their Sunday market. The very first Sunday market became a very big success and realized the real demand for locally produced vegetables. Sametime, the club decided to sell other local farmers’ produces in the Sunday market without additional charges, by collecting their produce right from their farm for free of cost. this saves other farmers from local market exploitations and other transportation costs.

With the initial success of Royal Farmers Club, Hari and the team decided to further expand their farming by producing more vegetables that include shallot, Cabbage, beans, etc in this year as well as, selling high-quality hybrid seeds and various other saplings in their market.
